Kristin: "I feel strong and capable now, not only in my workouts but in my everyday life."
When I became pregnant with my first child in 2010 I was already overweight. Seventeen months after he was born, I had my second child. Then in 2013 I worked out for the first time in my adult life. I had started in the right direction but had not addressed my eating habits. Then I became pregnant with with my third child and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. From there, my life consisted primarily of caring for three small children and not taking care of myself. I found myself sitting at home most days not wanting to go anywhere, especially not to exercise. I was eating whatever made me feel better in the moment. My weight was at an all time high, and my confidence was at an all time low.
I needed to make a change, but was so uncomfortable in my body that I was afraid to try. Then I found Kaia FIT Lafayette. I emailed Christine, the owner, to get more information. She responded right away and I came to my first class within a few days. Current members recognized me as being new and introduced themselves and struck up conversations. Christine consistently checked in with me to see how I was doing. I immediately realized Kaia FIT was different and had an incredibly supportive community.
So many aspects of my life have changed for the better since joining Kaia FIT a year ago. Slowly I was able to do more exercises and take less breaks, and with that my confidence began to grow. Christine was always there, giving me a little push to try new things I didn't think I could do. I happily surprised myself when I was able to do them.
When we were coming up on a BRIK session I realized it was time to take a hard look at my eating habits. I quickly saw how not fueling my body properly was affecting me mentally and physically. Since changing my eating habits I have the energy to keep up with my 3 boys after working out at 6:00am. My depression symptoms have reduced immensely, and I got rid of chronic stomach aches that I have struggled with for 20 years. I am down a total of 30 pounds from when I first joined Kaia. Recently I noticed muscles starting to show through. And I was able to run my first 10K in May 2017, a distance I would have never pictured myself running. Yet with the support and cheering on from the Kaia girls I was able to complete the race. The confidence I have gained in the past year is unbelievable. I feel strong and capable now, not only in my workouts but in my everyday life.
Joining Kaia was a wonderful and significant turning point in my life. It is such a great feeling to know you have a big group of women cheering you on, and friends you can lean on when you need support. The healthy habits I have developed are something I know I will keep with me always. I am truly excited to see where the next year and beyond, with Kaia FIT, will take me!
